As co-owner of an SMME December always stresses me out.  You see, we have a few prime clients with whom we have had a long and successful relationship and December is end-of-the-year function month.
We have done it all: fine dining, adventure activities, wine tasting, theatre & dinner, you name it, we’ve tried it.  This year, as we started surfing the net for the three most important dinners of the month (two client dinners and one dinner for our closest friends), our options were clichéd and limited - buffet this, set menu that, overcrowded hipster joint there, overpriced overhyped restaurant here.
After unsuccessfully trying to find something new and interesting, we went back to the drawing board.  What is it that we really want from these functions?  
So, we made a list:
1.  Amazing food
2.  Relaxed atmosphere 
3.  Beautiful view
4.  Interesting drinks
5.  A good old-fashioned kuier.
As for numbers 2 to 5, our house has all that.  The problem is the food - I do not want to be kept away from my guests by checking ovens, making drinks, serving canapés and in any case my recipe repertoire is really limited and ordinary.
In steps Chef Johnny.  We got hold of him on the internet, had a few e-mails to and fro regarding final choice of menu and waited nervously: will this work?
When our guests heard that they could dress up, but casually (beautiful cotton shirts/three-quarter pants for the guys, summery cocktail dresses for the women - no ties, no suits, no high heels, no clingy jeans) the feedback was amazing.  
We booked Chef Johnny for all three functions, hoping that his food would be as amazing in real life as it sounded on paper.
It was more so.  With each function we had a different menu, ranging from steak to salmon to deconstructed banoffee pie.  On the first evening Johnny told us that he had received some game liver from a friend, could he make us a pre-starter with homemade chimichurri sauce and fresh bread?  Well, this turned out to be one of our favourite dishes, even for the guests who hate liver.
Johnny brought Sarah along, at no extra cost, who mixed drinks, assisted in the kitchen, set the table and helped with service.  And at the end of the evening, the dishwasher was gently doing its thing and our kitchen was spotless.
Cape Town showed off with spectacular sunsets, wine and gin flowed (we had Uber’ed all our guests) the food was amazing and the portions generous.  What I also appreciated was that Chef Johnny was completely open to our time schedule - we had three lovely, leisurely dining experiences.  Our guests agreed: this was the most beautiful, relaxed fine-dining-evening-sunset-kuier of their year.
The question when working with someone like Chef Johnny is: would you use him again?  The answer is an unequivocal YES, in a heartbeat.
I still dream of the chimichurri sauce…

I was very fortunate in coming into contact with Johnny after I received a gift – personal chef to cook dinner for four.  The evening was amazing, Johnny captivated us with his cooking and exceptional service with the help of Sarah, at the end of the evening my kitchen was spotless.  I used Johnny again for other dinner parties and he again dazzled us with his exceptional cooking.  You just tell him what you want and he presents a menu in which you get to choose, you don’t do a thing.  It is the best way to host a dinner party as you get to relax and spend time with friends and family rather than being stressed and stuck in the kitchen.  I plan on using Johnny for future events and dinner celebrations.

We had hired one cooks kitchen for my husband's birthday dinner in December and what a great experience it was. Johnny was so accommodating to all our requests. 
On the evening of the party, Johnny and Sarah were so organised and professional in the way they executed the dinner party. 
As the hosts, my husband and I were so relaxed, we didn't need to lift a finger. The presentation of every dish were beautiful and food were delicious. We were grateful for the referral. 
After the party ended, Johnny and Sarah cleaned the kitchen as well. Will definitely repeat this amazing experience again.
