25 years of kitchens, Hotels, Hospitals, Army barracks, low end freezer to fryer trashy London Pubs to High end scratch-made everything kind of Places. Been there cooked that. Vegan to meat feasts, love it all. Crazy ride meeting some amazing people and done some unbelievably tasty food. Halibut, Black truffles, bitter chocolate ice cream and cheery cheese cake taste explosions. I love the discovery on new things , simple and the complex. I have had a passion for food for as long as I can remember , Food is largely based in memory, think back .. what flavours pop up? What memories do you have?
For me it is beef pot roast with hot English mustard . My moms? recipe. She puts the potatoes and carrots right in with the beef and they soak up all those wonderful aromas and beef juices, garlicky savoury goodness. I remember her standing in the kitchen the smell wafting through the kitchen and teasing the rest of the house. My favourite memory of her, I?ve carried it with me where ever I have travelled, My favourite food memory of my dad is slightly different, although my mother did most of the cooking my dad would cook now and then. He worked Saturdays and on a Saturday took us to work and made steaks in a pan with spicy chilli and tomato, hot, spicy hot. Mouth watering bum burning spicy hot. But delicious . Bite after lava hot bite, the beginning of my love affair with spicy food. He would always make Vet Koek ( a deep fried bread roll) and curried minced beef. Another favourite. But I will always remember that chilli steak roll, no matter what.
So now I write about food, stuff I eat, cook, discover and rediscover that there is indeed more than one way to cook an egg
